For your reference, we have shortlisted the list of places with snowfall in India in Winter during December to February:
  1. Kufri, Himachal Pradesh
  2. Shimla, Himachal Pradesh
  3. Manali. Himachal Pradesh
  4. Narkanda, Himachal Pradesh
  5. Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir
  6. Patnitop, Jammu & Kashmir
  7. Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir
  8. Auli, Uttarakhand
  9. Munsiyari, Uttarakhand
  10. Dhanaulti, Uttarakhand
  11. Nainital, Uttarakhand

Kufri, Himachal Pradesh:

Kufria skiing hotspot, is one of the popular winter holiday destinations in India in comparison to other places. This little quaint yet captivating region of Himachal Pradesh transforms into a heaven during winters. The white snow spread all over gives a very refreshing and chilly look. And cherries on the pasty cake are the tall deodars and pines as well as the postcard beauty of the surroundings.

Recently my friend and her wife visited Kufri in Himachal Pradesh. It is less than 30 km from Shimla. When they were going there, it started snowing in the evening. Next morning, when they woke up, they saw white snow everywhere. What beautiful sight it was!!

Shimla, Himachal Pradesh:

If you are running short of time but wants to enjoy snow fall in its full bloom then Shimla is an excellent place to throng. Wait till mid-December and you will see the place in a new avatar with a sheet of white cover fetching hordes of vacationers and honeymooners. Being the main gateway to Himachal Pradesh, explorers can also extend their journey to various other destinations of the state like Kufri, Manali and Naldehra from Shimla.

Sharing a personal experience of one of the traveler, “We have been hearing Shimla as a place getting commercialized but believe me, it's all a matter of visiting right places and of course the company you have. I reached Shimla with my fiancée. During our first week of our visit Shimla, I was so glad that I took the toy train route (You will get freshen up by the beauty of valleys on route). It's beautiful, cozy and so romantic. When you visit The Ridge, Mall Road and Christ Church, you will not regret taking the decision to visit Shimla. Just a mere walk across The Ridge, a peaceful five-minute time with your beloved at Church and a casual visit to small shops at Mall Road will make you realize later that you had the time of your life. So many eating places and cafes to take care of you. I would strongly recommend Shimla, if you are going to visit with your better half.”

Manali, Himachal Pradesh:

Despite being one of the most sought hill stations in India, the appeal of Manali never fades among tourists. Its emerald meadows, crystal clear rivers and the dancing drama of snowy slopping mounts and blue sky over the horizon are just unparalleled. And with the onset of winters, the appeal only grows giving tourists’ pleasure of skiing and ice-skating. Situated at a distance of 270 km north of Shimla, Manali is nestled in River Beas Valley at a height of 2,050 meters above sea level.

Sharing a personal experience of one of the traveler, "Manali is an awesome honeymoon destination with lot of romance in the air and awesome climate. Its a fine place for couples and everyone. You, can go there in any season. Its an excellent and exotic place. You should stay at some good location around Hadimba temple, then you can see the scenery around the woods and mountain views with snows which look like a sandwich squeezed with creamy white cheese. We enjoyed a lot in sightseeing as well as in main Manali. Hotel was good in all respects and food in Manali was also good. So I will say my overall experience was very good. We enjoyed a lot.”

Narkanda, Himachal Pradesh:

Imagine above you an azure blue sky drenched in the morning sun emerald green pines, firs and birches around you, below you milk white fresh snow and the only sound - wind pipes through the pine forests. Close your eyes for a few seconds scene. A complete white out sky soft cottons of snow covering the trees, the buses all around look up as the soft snow covers your face and dots your hair the wind steps up its pipe music. Can you hear it now? This is Mother Nature painting on her ever changing canvas in winter in Narkanda. A must visit place for a snow or even a nature lover.

Solang Valley, Himachal Pradesh:

It is a side valley at the top of the Kullu Valley in Himachal PradeshIndia 14 km northwest of the resort town Manali on the way to Rohtang Pass, and is known for its summer and winter sport conditions. The sport’s most commonly offered are parachuting, paragliding, skating and zorbing.

Sharing a personal experience of one of the traveler, “It was really a paisa-vasool day. We were on our way to Rohtang Pass, but somehow we were not allowed for that place. so we moved to Solang as just an alternative to pass the day. But to my surprise, Solang Valley is really nice place one must visit. Other activities here like horse riding, paragliding and trolley ride are great options to explore.”

  Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir:

Perched at a height of 8,957 ft above the sea level, Pahalgam is one of the pristine snow beauties in the country. Everything about this natural splendor is exciting: riverside location, snow-capped peaks, freezing weather conditions and surrounding calmness as well as skiing. But the real magic of Pahalgam lies within its quiet long treks that provide you a tranquil snowy escape away from the madness of mainland.

It is easily is the number 1 tourist destination in Kashmir. Small village, good atmosphere, beautiful combination of mountain and streams, green hills topped with snow-capped peaks and adventure activities for the young. Nevertheless, it is a peaceful & quiet place for the elderly. Small markets here add to the charm of the place.

Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir:

What better location you can think to see snow fall in India other than Gulmarg? Situated around 880 km away from the national capital, tourists can easily access this pristine snow beauty from Srinagar. Snowy peaks in the backdrop, freezing winds, blooming varieties of flowers and vast snow cover for skiing as well as a breathtaking ride in world’s highest cable car (Gondola) are not-to-be missed charms. A trip to Gulmarg is, however, incomplete without enjoying Kashmiri dishes and a visit to Alpather Lake and Tangmarg – a beautiful tourist spot just 1 km ahead.

Sharing a personal experience of one of the traveler, “It was an awesome experience. Everywhere you will see cotton like snow. With a touch of sunshine the valley became a mirror with a white sparkles all around. Sledge tour was so adventurous, especially sliding from the top of an ancient church. The Gondola Ride was a lifetime experience with skiing at the world's highest cable ride.”

Patnitop, Jammu & Kashmir:

No snow winter holidays in India is complete without mentioning Patnitop, a tourist point in the district of Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir. This hilltop place is quite close to Pir Panjal range and is nestled in Lower Himalayan Range. Thus it is full of abundance of natural beauty, revitalizing sights and of white snow cover. Along with skiers and nature lovers, Patnitop also enthrall trekkers. It will take around 3 hours to reach this exotic destination from Jammu.

You can walk around the gardens, enjoy horse-riding, have picnic with friends/family and even visit the nearby temples. All kinds of food is available at this hill station. Standard hotels can provide joyful accommodation. It’s like a natural heaven in hot summers to keep one away from high temperatures. Moreover, in winter, you can enjoy snowfall.

Auli, Uttarakhand

If you like to give your skiing skills a test or are a freaking skiing beginner then Auli is an ultimate stopover. With a deep in temperature, the place comes alive like a dreamland. Known as ‘bugyal’, in local dialect, it lies enroute to Badrinath (just 16 km away from Joshimath). Though Auli is full of panoramic sights, from forest surrounding to lofty peaks, but what makes it one of the best snow destinations in India are its 2500 to 3000 meters high skiing slopes that give tough competition to various international ski places.

Auli certainly provides the best skiing and snowboarding experience in India. Nestled between beautiful Nanda Devi, it gives an amazing 270-degree view. This place is kind of remote, but all efforts to reach the place is worth it. Prices are a bit on the higher side, but considering its remoteness. One can see a lot of folks from defense here. Apart from skiing, one can go for beautiful treks. In February the temp reached -10 and it was a real good experience. A highly recommended place for travel enthusiasts.”

Dhanaulti, Uttarakhand:

A drive of 24 km from Mussoorie will take you to Dhanaulti, another picturesque hill station of Uttarakhand. Perched high on 2286 meters, the place is known for its tranquility and dark beauty of deodar, oak and rhododendron forests. Though it is a round-the year hangout place but if you really want to enjoy Dhanaulti in its full bloom then winter is the best period. With white carpet below your feet and a canopy of green shade at your eye’s horizon, have some mood-setting snow activities like tic-tac snow or sticky glue.

The beauty of Dhanaulti lies in the hills that surround it, making it a peaceful and serene place. It is just a few kilometres from Mussoorie. If you are looking to spend a short time with your friends or with your better half, you should go for it. There are beautiful apple orchards and perfect eco-huts. There is an eco-park which is a must-visit. From an end of the eco-park, you can see the distant snow-capped mountains. One thing that you must do is shout your name and hear the beautiful echos from the nearby hills. Weather is very pleasant. The gorgeous landscape will take your breath away.

Munsiyari, Uttarakhand:

Nestled on the shores of Goriganga River, Munsiyari is a new discovery for tourists in Uttarakhand. With the name that means ‘place with snow’, it is full of mountains, glaciers, trekking routes and awe-inspiring natural beauty, making it a paradise for explorers, high-altitude trekkers and nature lovers. If you want to explore the richness of Johar Valley then it is the place to throng. Munsiyari is situated 125 km away from Pithoragarh and the enroute is full of beautiful panorama and cascades.

Sharing a personal experience of one of the traveler, “The overall experience in Munsiyari was very nice. The place had a unique scenic beauty and you can travel all day around the city seeing the natural beauty. The sunrise and sunset in the mountains was particularly good. Other notable places are Nanda Devi Temple, Kalmunai, Thamrikund Park and some other viewpoint.”

Nainital, Uttarakhand:

Planning a trip to Nainital in winters? A good choice if you want to enjoy the chill factor around Delhi. Lying 274 km from the national capital city, Nainital not only serves as a refreshing weekend escape but is also quite popular among newly-wed couples. But the best time to visit the place is December to January when Nanda Devi Peak looks stunning in a white cover and you can feel the chill in the breeze while following snow-covered trekking routes. A leisure walk along the iconic Naini Lake is also a must thing to do to complete your hoary experience in Nainital.

Sharing a personal experience of one of the traveler, “If you like hill stations with an ambient temperature in summers (around 15 degree) then Nainital is a must visit place. It is a scenic beauty with lush green surrounding and lots of lakes and 'tales'. You should visit at least 3-4 lakes while you are there. There is also an Eco-Cave Garden you should visit. Plus, there are lot of other adventure activities to try out and many zoos you can visit. 4-5 days are enough for you to check out all these places. Nainital has lots of shopping places and restaurants. You should take a walk on Mall Road at night. The view and the temperature are awesome. Overall, a trip to Nainital is a very nice experience and you should try it out.”
